Equestics

The study of the questions and answers for your online business success.

Greetings! I’m Stockbridge Truslow and I’d like to welcome you to Equestics.

One of the ways I develop new understandings of something is to write things out. A huge part of my job as lead developer and technical SEO Strategy Consultant for WSI Digital Marketing of Connecticut and eResults in Chicago is to stay up to speed on all the things that are happening out here on the Internet.

I spend a lot of time writing out things to clients – over and over again. I spend a lot of time on Reddit and various other forums and web related Facebook groups – both reading and learning, but also writing out explanations of things to help others. The act of answering other people’s questions helps me to sit back and look at what I know and make sure it all makes sense.

Equestics is a way for me to continue writing things out and also share it all with a much wider audience. My hopes are that I can help inform both existing clients, potential new clients, and even some novice or do-it-yourself online marketing and SEO people understand some of the more complicated concepts.

Equestics is your Techno Babel Fish

Babel Fish Diagram from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the GalaxyIn Douglas Adams’ book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the Babel fish is a small, bright yellow fish, which can be placed in someone’s ear in order for them to be able to hear any language translated into their first language. I like to think of what I do as sort of acting as a translator for all of the complex technical information out there on the web.

Most of our clients are small to medium businesses. As such, most of the people we work with are not Internet people. They don’t have a dedicated staff to handle their online needs and they don’t necessarily know that much about how the Internet works. As part of what I do, it’s my job to ensure that our clients can understand what we’re trying to do and that they are aware of the fundamentals.

This can be difficult because the developers and designers have their own jargon, the marketers throw around all sorts of other terms, and then the copy writers have their hands full trying to balance all the things we say they need to say with the message and language that the client needs to be able to address their audience. Heck, it even gets to the point sometimes where the various team members need some translation to be able to fully understand what someone else is talking about.

One of the goals I have for this site is to try to take some of the elements of developing and growing an online business presence and put them into a language that everyone can understand. This site won’t be your one-stop shop to learn everything about SEO (for example), but it will hopefully become a great resources to understand the basics and be able to use those to your advantage.
